My New Place! & a Sweet Potato Addiction

Sorry I haven’t been blogging as much! But FINALLY things have come together for me– I’m no longer living in people’s houses– I have my own place! (Well, I’m actually renting out a room but my housemate won’t be here for a few months so I’ve got a house to myself!

Before I get into that, it’s time to talk about my addiction… TO SWEET POTATOES! I have been eating them for breakfast lately. Strange or not? They just taste so sweet and they’re warm and filling on cold mornings. They’re healthy, and with a bit of maple syrup and cinnamon its like carb-free pancakes!

And I have another thing to admit… I’ve been eating out A LOT. (like 3 times a week!) That may be normal to some, but for me it is a bit crazy! Not as much cooking! And the problem with eating out for me is that I’m a food snob. I don’t eat at chain restaurants. I’m always looking for unique, local places. And I don’t do quick food, fried food, sandwiches, pizza, mexican… basically all the cheap stuff. My parents have come to visit me in my new place, so I’ve gotten a chance to dine out at some great places.

LOCAL THREE in Atlanta, sorta South of Buckhead is a great farm-to-table restaurant. My mom and I arrived at 6:30 and the restaurant was pretty empty, but when we left at 7:30 the place was packed! I love their concept of local food, sustainable ingredients and a changing menu. The scallops I ordered were buttery, smooth and paired great with the sweet potato puree. My mom ordered a steak with greens and she found it to be juicy and flavorful. The portions were good sized for the price too!

Back to the House…

I’ve decorated my room with a photo collage… the walls are still pretty empty. I’m going to use nature to my advantage and make some tree branch shelves and decor. Pinterest has been showing me some good ideas!

The rest of the space is decorated with different cheap DIY ideas… to save money on electric I adorned my trees with ribbon! I picked holly leaves outside to make a cute little table vase.

I love these little trees! The wreath was made by my friend Alicia..

So now that it’s officially December I feel like I really need to get some good baking recipes posted. I looked through my recipe index and saw that I only had like 2 cookie recipes! Its crazy because I bake or cook every night, sometimes I’m just too lazy to get out my camera and stage some pictures. I’ll try to be better!

Get ready for my baking kick… it starts this week! You’ll be OVERWHELMED with pics!

  1. I love your new room!! And the porch looks lovely!! So glad you’re settling in.

I am also addicted to sweet potatoes. Hard. Core. I’m orange. They are actually a complex carb which is great because I typically don’t get in enough grains in a day! Also, acorn squash is great with syrup in the morning… :)
